A loan of $850 helped to purchase clay.

Jose Isidro's story

José is 59 years old and lives in Quevedo. He makes and sells bricks, and started his business with a small capital investment and learned the trade from his brother-in-law.

Manufacturing the bricks involves a series of standard processes ranging from the choice of material to the final packaging process. The raw material for production of bricks is clay. Because of clay's ability to absorb moisture, when hydrated it gains sufficient plasticity to be shaped, which is very different from when it is dry and gains an earthy appearance. After this comes the stage of hardening, drying, or cooking, where the clay gains a remarkable strength with reduced mass due to water loss. In summary, the process is as follows: maturation, storage of the processed raw material, humidification, molding, drying, cooking, storage. Exposure to air, rain, sun, and ice accelerates the decomposition of organic matter.

This work requires a lot of physical strength, which is why José has a hernia and problems with his spine. José's wife is a housewife and has 6 children who attend public school. With this loan, he will purchase clay to increase production, and finish his home.
