Chheng's Group's story

A widow in a rural area of the Dambae district, Chheng is the 43-year-old mother of three sons who are still in school. She has struggled in her life to feed her sons through planting cassava on a half hectare of farmland. Sometimes, she also works for others for pay to gain extra income to feed her family. She has been in this business for more than ten years. The main challenge for her family business is the low price of cassava products which really affects her earning to support her family, especially her children's education. With her current business, she can earn only around 8,300 KHR per day and save only around 3,000 KHR each day.

This is Chheng's first group loan with Kiva's partner, VisionFund and her group consists of two female members. She is now leading her group to apply for a loan with VisionFund. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to spend for land preparation for her business. She hopes to earn more income with this loan so as to keep building up some savings for her children.
