Norah is a mother of four children all of schooling age. She has been in farming for two years with her farm currently producing beans, milk and bananas for the local market. She lives with her family in their rural home in Kisii area, South Rift, Kenya.
Norah has requested a loan of 20,800 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. She plans to grow her farming business to three dairy cows and improve the quality of her breeds as the business grows. She says farming has been the source of her income through which she meets family basic needs.
She laments animal diseases and natural calamities like hailstorms.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
