Benjamin's story

Benjamin, 69, has a lot of vitality and the happiness of a 15-year-old. He says that if he lets his bad mood take over he will not work well, nor get along with his family. He lives with his wife, who is his friend and the shoulder he leans on when he needs help. His house is located in the city of Ica, which is known for its warm climate throughout the year, and therefore called land of the eternal sun. He works in agriculture, especially growing grapes, asparagus, and paprika, among other crops. He has a high school education but would have liked to study agricultural engineering.

With much effort, especially because he wants to get ahead, Benjamin works on his patch of land growing pecans and mangos. He works about ten hours a day, making sure his crops are free from disease to have a good harvest. He believes business is going so well because he is very dedicated and knows his customers well.

Benjamin is content and grateful to the Kiva lenders for the help they are giving him. He will be able to buy supplies and fertilizers for his plants, which will make for a better harvest next year and more income. Therefore, he will be able to continue striving toward his greatest goal: "To finish building a house out of solid materials".
