A loan of $425 helped to buy irrigation pipes, seeds, and to pay farmhands.

Benson's story

Benson is a resident of Murang’a and has been active in farming for ten years. He lives with his family of three children in their rural home in Murang'a where he carries out farming and sells his produce of milk, tomatoes, and butternuts to the local markets.

Benson has requested a loan of 35,000 KES from Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy and fertilizer at 10,000 KES, irrigation pipes at 5,000 KES and pay for seeds and farmhand labor at 20,000 KES. He says he hopes to improve the living standards of his family and educate his children with the farming income.

He says the major challenge is dry spells and poor markets with low price offers for farm produce. He plans to make proper use of Juhudi Kilimo loans.
