A loan of $1,150 helped to reinforce the walls of her home.

Maria Luz's story

Maria, age 55, is hardworking and enthusiastic. She is the mother of three grown children who are already married, so she moves forward alone and with great effort. Above all, she possesses the love that only a mother could have for her children. Her home is located in the city of Pisco, which is known for its warm climate and beautiful beaches. Pisco is also known for the Ballesta Islands, which are constantly visited by tourists throughout the year. With great effort and dedication, Maria works in her business of selling juices and refreshments. She works approximately 10 hours a day and is able to serve up to 15 customers in a day. Maria believes she is doing well in her business because she tries very hard and the juices she sells taste good.

She is extremely grateful to the Kiva lenders. Thanks to the support they have provided, she will be able to make improvements to her home, which was impacted by the earthquake in 2007. Her house was flooded since it is located near the sea. The movement of the ground forced a few meters of water into her home. The improvements she will make include reinforcement of the walls, which will allow her to have a better quality of life. Maria continues to strive each day to fulfill her greatest dream of having a home in good condition and opening a cafeteria at the university.
