A loan of $775 helped to perform maintenance on his boat.

Oscar Martin's story

Oscar is 45 years old but a young man of 20 in spirit and happiness. He lives with his wife and two children, ages 14 and 2, whom he loves very much. He works very hard so they will get ahead and have a better future. He only completed secondary school, but he would like to have studied business administration.

His home is located in the city of Pisco, known for its warm climate as well as for beautiful beaches and the Ballestas Islands, which are visited by vast numbers of tourists all year long. When he has some free time he likes to play soccer, which he cannot do very often because his job is so hard and tiring. He also likes to eat one of his favorite dishes, the delicious ceviche with a "chilcano" [Pisco and cola cocktail].

Every day Oscar works in his business as a fisherman. He fishes, especially shellfish, and sells them mainly to restaurants in his city. He works about 12 hours a day in his business and can serve up to 15 customers a week. He believes it is going well for him in his business because he is very well known and polite with his customers.

Oscar is very grateful to the Kiva lenders. Thanks to the help they have given him he will be able to perform maintenance on his boat and make improvements to his home, such as improving the floors and windows. In this way he will be able to continue working with a vehicle in good shape and fighting every day to make his biggest dream a reality: "To have a boat business."
