A loan of $3,925 helped a member buy sheep and cows to raise for resale.

Montagne Sud Group's story

The Montagne Sud "Banc Villageois" (local loan association) was created on March 28, 2008. The PS2 group consists of five women living in the same neighborhood and whose major activities are farming and trade.

The borrower being featured is Ms. Binetou who is 36 years old. She is married with three children: two girls and a boy. She runs a sheep- and cattle-fattening business and has a parallel activity as a seamstress. She has accumulated five years' experience. On the photo she is standing to the right dressed in a "wax" pagne and a pink shawl, and is raising her left hand.

She buys her livestock at the city's fairground and sells them after five to six months of fattening.

With her special loan she wants to buy two sheep and two cows she will fatten and is counting on substantial benefits from the sale.

She plans to use her profits to expand her savings and support her husband in dealing with her family's daily expenses.

In this group: Binetou, Fatou, Fatou Dame, Penda, Aïda
