Yuri's story

Yuri is 60 years old. He lives in Martvili District, West Georgia. Yuri works as a taxi driver. He provides transportation service to the Martvili District population. Yuri’s wife – Liana and their 32-year-old son run the agricultural business for the family. They have a milk cow. Liana produces cheese and sells it in the village. Liana also grows bay trees and maize on the family-owned 0.8 hectare of land. They sell the harvested maize and bay leaves locally to retailers. The total average monthly income for the family is 500 Laris.

Yuri requested credit to set up a bread bakery. With the received credit he will build a Georgian bread bakery. He will use his savings to purchase wood and flour to bake traditional Georgian bread. His son and a hired baker will bake the bread and sell it from the bakery. According to Yuri’s estimations, the bakery will be profitable as there is no similar one in the village. The income for the family will increase and the family will be able to improve their living conditions.
