A loan of $275 helped to buy milk, sugar, flour, butter, and "manjar blanco".

Victor Manuel's story

Victor is 68 years of age, but has the spirit and cheerfulness of a 20-year-old. He lives alongside his wife who acts as his right hand in everything and, above all, provides him unconditional support. They have two children, ages 21 and 15, who they love dearly and for whom they try to provide the best in life. Victor's home is located in the city of Chincha, which is known for its warm climate and also for being the site of the greatest victories in Peruvian sports. Chincha is also well-known because its inhabitants have the ability to prepare food. Victor enjoys watching television whenever he has free time, especially the news because he likes to find out about the events that are taking place around the country. In addition, he enjoys eating one of his favorite dishes, which is the flavorful "carapulcra" (a spicy Peruvian stew served with dried potatoes). Victor only has a high school education, but he would have liked to have pursued a profession.

With great effort, Victor works in his business selling "alfajores" (shortbread cookies with a sweet filling). He dedicates approximately 10 hours each day to his business and is able to serve up to 15 customers in a day. Victor believes he is doing well in his business because his "alfajores" are delicious and he attends to his customers in a friendly manner.

He is very grateful to the Kiva lenders. Thanks to the help he is receiving, Victor will be able to buy supplies for preparing his "alfajores" such as milk, sugar, flour, butter, and "manjar blanco" (a sweet dairy confection that is similar to caramel) since these are the necessary ingredients for making his products. He will continue to work each day to fulfill his greatest dream of having a house of his own and becoming a specialist in sweets.
