Fanny Maribel's story

Fanny is twenty-seven years old and the mother of two children with whom she lives in Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo is both a city and canton of the new province of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, which used to be a rural parish of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. It is between Ecuador's coast and mountain range, and serves as a link between Quito, Guayaquil, Portoviejo, and other important cities in the country. Situated on the outer side of the western range at 1000 meters above sea level, Santo Domingo, like the lower coastal plains, is the area of greatest rainfall in the country. It has great hydrological wealth: there are five important basins and micro-basins. It is a rainy, subtropical climatic zone and has an average temperature of twenty-two degrees Celsius.

Three years ago, Fanny began to sell cosmetics door to door in order to maintain her home. She learned the business from a friend and currently works between six and eight hours. Now she wants to make an investment which will allow her to offer a greater variety of products and with which she will be able to increase her sales and consequently her income. Fanny wants to give her family a better quality of life.

Her great dream is to have her own house, in which she and her children can live more comfortably.
