A loan of $1,350 helped to purchase a 12 cubic meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester.

Silviano's story

When Silviano installs his new Sistema Biobolsa biodigester, the family will be able to produce thousands of liters of organic fertilizer per week for their orchards and greenhouses, treat their animal waste, and produce biogas for use in the kitchen. Silviano has spent his life integrating family farming techniques that encourage strong bonds to "Mother Earth", and with the use of a biodigester he can further increase these bonds within his family's "productive circle".

His son Eric, an agricultural engineer, teaches local individuals with developmental disorders how to take care of animals and crops in addition to tending to the family farm. Hortencia, Eric's wife, is an industrial engineer who also maintains the farm.

Silviano is a leader in his community and has always stressed the importance of using sustainable farming techniques, publishing editorials that encourage his community to implement vegetable gardens, small chicken coops, and other small-scale production methods. He has seen the effects of climate change within his community and wants to use and encourage technologies that will help farmers grow crops and raise animals while minimizing their impact on the environment.
