A loan of $1,150 helped to buy seeds and hire workers.

Mateo's story

Mateo, 43, lives with Antonia and they have five children. They live in their own house in the district of Huasahuasi, Tarma. His expertise is in agriculture, the activity he has been involved in since he was a child. On his cropland he grows potatoes, lima beans and corn. "Yes, the work is tiresome because my land is far away so I have to walk quite a bit", he says. With the help of his wife, who always takes him lunch at the exact time, and his eldest children who always accompany Mateo to work, he can be sure his efforts will be fruitful. One of the problems he is up against is the changing climate in the area, especially the intense cold and rains. But no one can stop him from getting his job done. One of his priority goals is for his eldest children to get a technical or university degree in the city. So he plans to continue working as he has been until now.

This will be Mateo's ninth loan through MFP and his communal bank "Nueva Jerusalén", for whom he feels much affection as they are always looking out for him.

He plans to use the loan to hire workers to help him sow peas, and also buy three bags of pea seeds (55 PEN each).
