Lidya is a farmer and a mother of two children aged six years and one year. Her first born is already in school. She runs a retail shop besides her farming business. Her farm currently produces milk, maize, beans, and fruits, which are sold within the local market.
Lidya has made a loan request of 41,600 KES, which she plans to use to purchase and insure a dairy cow. She hopes to acquire an additional two dairy cows in the near future. She is optimistic that she will be able to meet her family's basic needs with much ease.
The high cost of feed remains the major challenge for her.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
