A loan of $2,650 helped a member to buy vests of different styles and sizes for her customers.

Emprendedores Lord Cochrane Group's story

This bank is called “Emprendedores Lord Cochrane” (Lord Cochrane Entrepreneurs), and has 17 members involved in different businesses: plant sales, stationery items, traditional woven products, tailoring, jewelry and accessory sales, among others. All of the members are from the city of Valparaíso. Geanella, who is the secretary of the village bank, is seated first from right to left in the photo, and is wearing blue pants, a red striped top and a grey jacket. She has sold traditionally crafted products and stationery items for the past six years, and works alongside her mother. She buys the goods she needs for her business in Santiago, where there is greater variety and costs are lower. Geanella plans to use the loan to buy vests of different styles and sizes for her customers. Her future goals include continuing with her business and increasing her income, enabling her to have a better quality of life. She lives with her husband, who is a government employee and works for the navy, as well as her mother and grandmother. She is also expecting a baby. Her dream is to have her own home. Geanella is very happy and thankful for the loan and services offered by Fondo Esperanza. She also says that she feels very good about the meetings and the group of people included in the village bank, as they are all united. Valparaíso is located 120 kilometers to the north-west of Santiago. It is the regional capital and home to the country’s legislative authorities. It is Chile’s main port, and has a wide variety of beautiful, picturesque spots, such as the home of poet and Nobel prize winner Pablo Neruda.
