A loan of $700 helped a member to buy tomatoes, margi, onions, pepper, salt, flour, beans, oil and other foods in bulk to expand her business.

Fight Against Shame Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you members of the “Fight Against Shame” group. These are small scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders for a loan of 600,000 Sierra Leonean leones (SLL) each to invest in their respective businesses.

Kadiatu is the leader of this group. She is fifty years old and married with four children – three who are no longer attending school and one who is in college. Kadiatu sells market food such as tomatoes, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), onions, pepper, salt, flour, beans and oil. She has been a businesswoman for the past eighteen years. With the help of this loan, Kadiatu will invest in her business by buying food in bulk to expand her business.
