Anghela is a single mother and has one child. She lives at the home of her parents where they occupy one room. The house is located in the District of Sopocachi in the city of La Paz.

Anghela currently works as an attorney for a public institution. She only earns enough to cover the expenses of her son, who is still very young. Also, her parents help out by paying for the basic household services. For this reason, she is requesting a loan to pay for the thesis required for her degree. She does not earn any other income.

Anghela's dream is to have more income so that she can acquire a house through an "anticrético" agreement (a contract to rent property whereby the renter pays the landlord a fixed sum at the start of the rental period in lieu of paying monthly rent; at the end of the rental period, the tenant receives the sum back, in full, from the landlord, thus resulting in rent-free living) and provide greater comfort for her son. This is the first time she has worked with IMPRO and Kiva.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
