A loan of $1,025 helped to buy more bags and home products like plates and saucepans for resale.

Joyce's story

Joyce is 45 years old and lives in the town of Pakwach in the Arua region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, three of them currently in school. For the past 15 years, Joyce has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells bags and home products.

To help expand her business, Joyce has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more bags and home products like plates and saucepans for resale, and will help Joyce to generate greater profits and pay school fees for her children. Joyce hopes that in the future she will be able to run two businesses of the same kind.

Joyce is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Joyce who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
