A loan of $1,100 helped to buy perfume, cosmetics, creams, and jewelry.

Mariana De Jesús's story

The communal bank Damas Del Futuro meets every 15 days in the region of Pajan, which is known for its abundant cattle. One attraction there is the rodeo, which takes place at special times of the year.

Maria lives in this area. She is 51 years old and has five children with her common-law husband, three of whom are adults, the other two of whom are 14 and 16 years of age and are in high school. All of her children live at home with her. Her husband is a chauffeur.

In order to make her own income, our friend sells products from Avon catalogues (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and women's accessories.) She sells door-to-door, working every day in the mornings since these hours make it easier for her to complete her rounds. She extends credit to her customers and collects weekly, saying that she loves to sell and that she has been doing this for more than three years, during which things have gone very well since she has plenty of customers. Her biggest-selling items are cosmetics and perfumes.

She will use this loan to buy perfume, cosmetics, creams, and jewelry. She has been with the communal bank for four years, and she appreciates it because with one of the loans she was able to start her business, which allows her to earn her own income.

Her dream is to see her children finish their studies and have good professional jobs.
