A loan of $575 helped to purchase seeds and fertilizers.

Ana's story

Ana is 29 years old, and lives with her son Ronald, who is 9 years old. They live in their own house in the district of Huasahuasi – Tarma.

Ana has been working in agriculture for over ten years, and she presently plants and harvests potatoes and peas, which she sells in the central market in her city. She is a very entrepreneurial woman who decided five years ago to expand her business, since her son was growing and needed more of her time and energy. She decided to purchase two parcels of land, and she now produces crops on that land, as well as on additional rented land. She says that, “When pea season arrives, we plant up to four parcels of land for the crop if it is profitable.”

In the future, Ana is considering purchasing more land for farming, land that she would use to increase her potato production, as well as the production of other staple crops. She hopes that, with more land in her name and fewer rent payments, she will be able to generate more income and sell her products in the capital city.

This is her second loan with MFP. She is a member of the community bank, “Unión Huanchán,” and she feels very connected to the group and identifies with their common goals and tasks. With the support from the loan, Ana plans to purchase two sacks of seeds (with 1100 soles). Any remaining funds will be used to purchase fertilizers.
