A loan of $1,375 helped to buy coffee plants.

Francisca's story

Francisca has been working in the coffee plantations since she was ten years old and she’d help her parents with harvesting chores; later on they also taught her how to plant it too. When she got married she and her husband continued with this activity which she’s also taught to her children.

She splits her time between work in the “Unión Regional de Huatusco” [coffee cooperative] and her coffee plantation. Part of her coffee production is conventional and part of it is organic coffee. She’d like it if it were totally organic because it has a higher market value and besides it helps to preserve the environment because it doesn’t use fertilizers with chemical substances.

In the previous harvest she had a yield of 10 tons and she wants to plant more plants to attain greater coffee production which is why she needs a loan. One of the goals is to open a grocery store in the location where they live in order to have more income for herself and her family.
