A loan of $1,550 helped to buy a computer, a desk unit and an air conditioner.

Nuria's story

Nuria, 34, lives with her husband and 8 year old child in Puerto Colombia, a town located on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. She has had an Internet Café there for the last 7 years where she has six computers, a multifunctional printer and a photocopier, assets with which she offers her services in a locale next door to her house so that she can simultaneously be nearby directing the education and care of her small son while also doing her housework.

Her husband works for a shipping firm and they will take advantage of this to open a franchise of this same firm that Nuria can run alongside her Internet café. Her plan is to make some physical improvements that will allow for more security that this business negotiation requires if it is to come about.

She is applying for her a Kiva loan, Nuria’s first loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo that she plans to use to buy a new computer, a wooden desk unit to organize the equipment and an air conditioner to offer a comfortable environment to her customers and also so that she can work in an appropriate environment because being located on the shore sometimes the heat becomes unbearable to do her daily tasks.
