Esther Marcelina's story

Esther is 65 years old, but she has the spirit of a 20 year old young person. She was widowed some years ago. This was a great sorrow because her husband was her right hand, and, above all, she loved him very much. She has a son who is an adult and is married. However, he is always looking out for her, and he loves her very much.

Her house is in a city that is known for having a warm climate year round. There is a lot of agriculture in this city, especially cotton, asparagus, and paprika, among others. This is where we find one of the tourist attractions, “La Laguna de Huacachina” (Haucachina Lagoon). You will also find the Templo del Señor Luren, whose patron saint festivities are in October.

Esther really likes to watch television, especially her novelas (soap operas), when she has some free time. She could only attend school until the fifth year of high school, but she would have liked to have continued with a university education.

Esther devotes herself very enthusiastically to her work as a seamstress. She mends garments and makes dresses and pants, among other garments. She devotes around five hours a day to her business. She is able to take care of up to ten customers a day. She believes that it is going well for her in her business because she is well-known. This is because she has been working for 20 years, and her place is located in a central area of the city.

Esther is very grateful to the Kiva lenders. Thanks to their help she will be able to buy material to make sweatshirts for the city schools. With the loan she will be able to make more garments and improve her income. This way she will continue working and struggling each day to make her biggest dream come true: To have a good quality of life and to support her grandchildren.
