Basawadima Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you members of the “Basawadima” group. These are small-scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek a loan of 500,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) for each member in order to invest in her respective business.

Josephine is the leader of this group. She is 45 years old and married with five children – one in primary school, three in secondary school, and one in college. Josephine sells cooking oil, rice, drinks, mints, etc. With the help of this loan, Josephine will invest in her business by buying the above mentioned items in bulk to add to her business.
