A loan of $4,575 helped a member to buy cotton and Alpaca wool thread.

Sartawi Group's story

The “Sartawi” communal bank will start its tenth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Los Andes Focal Center; it has nine members led by a governing board headed by Sabina. The communal bank members carry out a variety of activities among which we have: silkscreen printing, jacket sales, food sales, marionette making, blanket sales, beer sales, sewing workshop and neighborhood store. Sabina indicates that she’s been part of a Pro Mujer communal bank for five years having been invited to join by a niece. She currently has a crafts business (knitting Alpaca wool sweaters) that she’s had for years. The loan she’s taking out now is to increase capital. She will buy bags of cotton and Alpaca wool yarn the street markets in the cities of La Paz and Viacha and after manufacturing will sell to order in the international commerce fairs. This way of working allows her to support her family since she’s married and has four children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the savings.
