Rigoberto De Jesus
Rigoberto trained as an industrial mechanic and for the last 8 years has been working in this field. He started out working for a firm that went bankrupt and had to close dismissing all its employees so Rigoberto was left unemployed and without a source of income to support his home. However, like the hardworking, enterprising person he’s always been, he availed himself of savings he had and bought a machine that was being sold at a very low price because of his firm’s liquidation and thus started his own machine shop.

Since he set up his shop about two years have gone by and thanks to the effort he puts into his work daily he’s managed to position it and to win over a larger number of customers every time. Given that a customer has placed an order for some meat tenderizing machines, Rigoberto is looking for a loan to buy supplies and raw materials he needs to manufacture the meat tenderizing machines his customers has ordered.

In this way he hopes to continue meeting customer needs and continue growing in his shop so that each time he can attain better living conditions. His dream is to be able to offer his wife and children a better quality of life with better economic opportunities that will allow them to make progress.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
