Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $825 helped to expand her business.

Agnes's story

Agnes is 50 years old and lives in the town of Zana in the Kampala west region of Uganda. She is married and has 5 children; 2 of them are currently in school. For the past 20 years, Agnes has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar and soap.

To help expand her business, Agnes has requested a loan of 2000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to expand her business and will help Agnes to generate greater profits and increase her capital. Agnes hopes that in the future she will be able to build a bigger house.

Agnes is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Agnes who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
