Salome's story

Salome is 52 years old, married and has two children, ages 17 and 20. She sells cold and hot beverages in a bar she started in 2002. The bar is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and she makes a profit of about $70 monthly from her business.

In the past, Salome took out took a loan from Tujijenge Tanzania to buy more beverages to sell in her bar. Now, she hopes for a new loan to buy more chairs. In addition to using them in the bar, she will also start a new business that rents chairs out for functions.

Salome belongs to the loan group Tiger, which totals 25 members who keep each other accountable for paying back loans.
