Las Amapolas Group

A loan of $4,050 helped a member to purchase supplies for making food, table linens and china.

Las Amapolas Group's story

Aida is 48 years old. For over 10 years she had made her living preparing banquet feasts for special events like, 15th birthday celebrations, weddings, children's parties, birthdays etc. She says she started this business because she completed a cooking course and because her family always told her that her cooking was delicious. So she decided to start a business, and besides, there wasn't much competition back then. Aida is requesting the financing in order to purchase table linens and china for the food service, both of which she rents out. She will also purchase china, trays for serving the plates of food and food-making supplies. She says she feels passionate about her work, as she really enjoys preparing delicious food. She purchases the supplies that she uses in the Zitacuaro wholesale food market, going to different sellers the find the best prices. Doña Aida's goal is to have a banquet hall to be able to rent out everything someone would need for a party. The other 10 members of the communal bank are Angelina, Leticia, María Francisca, María del Carmen, María del Carmen E., Marco Alejandro, María Guadalupe, Antonia, Margarita and Adriana. They will invest their loans in supplies for making and selling Mexican snacks, in products for a nutritional club, in articles and supplies for a schooling cooperative, in tortilla-making machines, in catalog bedspreads, in women's clothing and in fruit for a juice bar.
