A loan of $500 helped to have maintenance work carried out on his motorcycle taxi, to buy fertilizers for his crops and to buy feed for his animals.

Jaime's story

Jaime is 40 years old. He is married and has two children in his care. He lives with his wife and children in his own home. He comments that the quality of life in his community is one of subsistence. Most of the people in his community are self employed and work in commerce, farming and livestock raising. Jaima lives in the small village of Nueva Esperanza, in Tambogrande district, in Piura department. His home is connected to the electricity supply. He tells us that all the families in his district live in the same conditions.

Jaime's business activity is providing a motorcycle taxi service. He provides a service between Nueva Esperanza and Tambogrande. He also raises and fattens farmyard birds and has 0.5 hectares of farmland where he grows lemons and mangos. This makes him additional income with which to cover his personal expenses. We should point out that Jaime has eight years experience in the public transport business. This has allowed him to gain a steady customer base for his business.

Jaime is currently requesting a new loan from Edpyme Alternativa for 1,300 soles. He will use this sum to have maintenance work carried out on his vehicle (changing his tires and hubcaps). He will also buy fertilizers for his crops and feed for his animals. This is a very profitable business activity in his area and, over time, he hopes that it will allow him to continue improving his family's standard of living.
