A loan helped to buy poultry birds.

Bernadette's story

Bernadette is a farmer in the Kitale area of Western Kenya, where she lives with her seven children who are still schooling. She has 20 solid years in farming and produces milk, maize, beans, and vegetables. She also operates a retail shop in the local market for additional income.

Bernadette has requested a loan of 40,000 Kenya shillings (KES) from Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo, which she will use to buy poultry birds for a venture into a poultry farming business. She adds that the poultry business will help her boost her dairy business as well.

She says that animal diseases and feeds remain major business challenges because of the high costs of feeds and drugs.
