Zadock is 30 years old and has been actively farming for five successive years in his home area of Kitale, Westen Kenya. He is single and runs a farm that produces milk, maize, and beans, and sells to the local market. He also runs a pool table business.
Zadock has requested a loan of 62,400 KES from Kiva partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He says this will earn him more income and boost his other businesses so that he can support his siblings and develop a strong foundation for his family.
He says finding sources for farming capital is a challenge for many farmers, and he appreciates Juhudi Kilimo for the loan services they provide.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
About Juhudi Kilimo:
Juhudi Kilimo is a for-profit social enterprise working with small-holder farmers in Kenya to finance purchases of dairy cows, chickens, agricultural equipment, and other assets that create immediate cash flow.
