Marìa Elsa's story

María is a woman who is 64 years old, married, with three independent children; she lives with her children in her own house. It’s mentioned that the quality of life of the community is at the subsistence level. Most of the residents are independent workers in farming, animal husbandry, crafts and raising small animals; some of them also work in commerce. María lives in her own house in Cayalti District in Lambayeque Department and it has all basic utilities.

The commercial activity María does is selling newspapers. She has this small business installed in a kiosk she rents from the city; she has regular customers she tends to there and she has ten years’ experience which has allowed her to retain her already established clientele.

At present, María has decided to expand her inventory with respect to her small business because it’s quite profitable in the zone and because of this has requested a new, 1000 new sol, loan from Edpyme Alternativa to buy merchandise (newspapers and magazines) and to do some home improvements which in time will allow her to improve her standard of living with her family.
