A loan of $3,700 helped a member to buy a new food stand.

Las Chicas Del Rio Group's story

The “Las Chicas del Río” (The Young Girls from the River) is a Credituyo group in its fourth cycle. The group has that name because a stream goes by the place in the east part of the city of Monterrey where they hold their weekly meetings; it has six members.

Erika is one of the group members. She’s 27 years old, married and has no children yet. During the day Erika works as a helper in a laundry and in the evenings she, her husband and her mother run a food stand in their neighborhood. Erika and her family sell dinners like tacos, “gorditas” [stuffed corn griddle cakes], hamburgers, etc.

Erika wants the loan to replace the food stand they sell in because it’s a bit deteriorated and she also plans to stock up on ingredients to increase her sales. In the long run, Erika wants her business to grow and she plans to set herself up in a local near downtown.

In this group: Dolores, Erika Maribel, Maria Teresa, Martha Patricia, Nohelia Griselda, Olga Lydia
