Benkadi Group's story

Benkadi is a group of married women with an average age of 30 and 4 children. They live in traditional families in Dialanikoro, one of the neighborhoods in the city of Bougouni (the third largest administrative region in Mali). To meet the needs of their clientele, they are on their third collaboration with Soro Yiriwaso, a microfinance organization. This group of women are in the business of shoes (via Korotoumou) and clothing. Korotoumou, with her hand in the pail in the photo, will use her loan to buy 100 pairs of shoes. She buys her inventory from wholesalers in Bougouni. She resells from her home and at the market to a clientele of women and men, for cash and credit. She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 30,000 FCFA, a part of which will be used to help her husband with daily expenses. The other part will be invested in her business.
