A loan of $1,625 helped a member to buy onions.

Benkadi Group's story

All married in polygamous families, the four women in the Benkadi group are 34 years old on average and have an average of 5 children each. They all live in the Dougounina neighbourhood of Bougouni and are neighbours, relatives and business associates.

They buy and sell various products such as onions, like the group leader Fanta, condiments, fruit juice and cereals.

The members of the group joined Soro Yiriwaso in order to increase their business funds. This is their ninth solidarity loan. The eight previous loans have all been repaid correctly.

Fanta (pictured 3rd from the left) sells onions of all qualities and is much sought-after in Bougouni. She will use her loan to buy 20 bags of shallots from Sikasso wholesalers. Her customers include both men and women, and they pay cash or buy on credit.

With this loan, Fanta hopes to make 95 000 CFA francs on average, part of which will be reinvested in the business and part of which will help her husband to meet household expenses.

In this group: Fanta , Awa , Mayon , Djenebou
