A loan of $725 helped to buy piglets and a water tank.

Emma's story

Emma, a 35-year-old mother of two children aged four and one, has been farming for ten years and also runs a retail shop within the local market where she sells her produce of maize, beans, potatoes, bananas and milk.

Emma has made a first-time request for a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy piglets and a water tank. She says that an adequate water supply will enable her to cultivate a variety of products during both the rainy and dry seasons. She aspires to grow her retail shop into a wholesale business in the future.

Emma says a lack of capital and a poorly developed local market are among the leading challenges she faces in farming.
