Oun's Group
In this Group: Oun, Mon, Het
Oun is a 57-year-old rural farmer and she is married. She lives with her husband and her children in a village located in the Tbaung Khmum district where crop farming is a common way to earn a living. Out of her four children, she still has two dependent daughters to take care of and they are still in school. She earns a living through farming rice on one hectare of farmland and planting cassava on one hectare of farmland as well. She has been in this business for almost 30 years. She has been challenged by price fluctuations for her crop yields for several years, which affected her income.

Oun's group consists of three members and she is the leader of the group. Oun has been with VisionFund for two loan cycles while her group members have been with VisionFund just for one loan cycle. Now she can earn up to KHR 12,000 from her current business to make a living. She and her two group members are applying for a loan with VisionFund of 1,400,000 Khmer Riels and 1,200,000 Khmer Riels each respectively. As the leader, she will use her portion to buy fertilizer and cassava seedlings for her farmland. She hopes to earn more income from her business and also hopes to keep her children in school until graduation.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
