The name "Girasol" ["Sunflower"] was chosen by Sra. Lety, a member of this group. She says that she thought of this name because she likes sunflowers and the name sounded pretty.
Sra. Juany is the Girasol group's president and organizer. She is 49, in a common-law marriage, and has three unmarried children who work, even though they are only between 19 and 22 years old. Juany has owned a grocery store called "Abarrotes Juany" for seven years, located in her own home. This loan will help her to stock more merchandise in order to have a good stock. Juany also says that she currently has a photocopier, which is broken, and she wants to repair it or buy a new one in order to both continue with her grocery store and also have a stationery store.
An interesting fact about this group is that they all live on the same block and have known each other for over three years.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
