A loan of $750 helped to buy products (butter, beans, rice, flour, etc.).

Amelia's story

Amelia was born in the district of Bilene in the province of Gaza in southern Mozambique. She is married and has 5 children. Only the youngest is still in school. She studied through the fourth grade and didn't continue due to the lack of financial resources. She lives in her own home with her family and also supports her nephew, who lives with her.

She left Gaza for Maputo in search of better living conditions. She has had a business for more than 10 years, and she makes close to 5,000 meticals a month, which she puts towards her home's expenses. She also saves some in her bank account and through Xitique (a traditional rotating savings system).

She has had loans through other banks, which she paid back without any problems. She became familiar with Hluvuku through a friend who is also a client of the institution. This is her second loan with Hluvuku, and it is for 20,000 meticals. She will use it to buy products (butter, beans, rice, flour, etc.) to increase her quantity of merchandise. Her previous loan was for 10,000 meticals, which she also used to buy products.

She promises to pay back her loan on time. In the future, she hopes to buy a vehicle to help transport her merchandise, for which she is counting on more loans from Hluvuku.
