Josef is 35 years old. He lives in a small village in Gori District with his family which includes his wife Ketevan, their two children ages 12 and 9, his parents and one grandmother.
The family earns their living through the agricultural business. They grow various fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, onions, apples and peaches, on a family owned plot of land. Josef sells harvested products in a local open market. Josef has a mini-tractor he uses for tilling the family owned plot of land. Also, Josef provides tilling services to neighboring farmers. Along with the agriculture work, Josef works seasonally as a worker/painter. He fills house-painting orders, mainly during the summer. The total average monthly income of the family is 1200 Laris.
Josef requested credit for purchasing fuel for his tractor to cultivate the plot of land. Also, he will purchase fertilizers and pesticides to prevent parasites. After these seasonal process improvements, the family will achieve a better harvest than in previous years. Part of the credit will be used for purchasing piglets. He will raise them and after six months sell the grown pigs for a higher price. Pigs will also bring additional income to the family. Josef and Ketevan plan to reinvest the profit for further development of the family business.
