A loan of $1,100 helped to buy sheets, comforters and towels.

Lucy Del Carmen's story

Every two weeks, the members of the Santa Marianita community bank meet in Santa Marianita neighborhood, in the city of Manta. This city is known for its beautiful beaches which are very popular year round with both domestic and foreign tourists. The city is home to one of the most important ports in the country, and America. It is situated on the Pacific coast.

This is where Lucy lives. Lucy is 52 years old and lives with her common-law husband. The couple have two children who are both adults. One of them still lives at home. Lucy's husband is a master locksmith.

Lucy is a nursing assistant and she provides personal care for an elderly person. However, in her free time she also sells products. She sells sheets, comforters and towels door to door once she has finished her nursing work. She goes to visit her customers who make orders with her. She leaves her products on credit and collects payment weekly. She has been in this line of work for 10 years and started her business with her first loan from her community bank.

Lucy will use this loan to buy sheets, comforters and towels. She has been a member of her community bank for ten years and she likes it because the profits from her business have enabled her to help her children make progress in their studies.

Lucy's dream is to continue in her business.
