A loan of $1,150 helped to purchase baking utensils (baking tins and bread tongs, among other things).

Maria Elena's story

Maria is a very hardworking woman. She is the mother of two children, who are 14 and 17 respectively. She loves them very much and she works for them and finds a way to keep going, in order to give them a happy life above all. Her residence is located in the city of Camana, which is known for its beautiful beaches and its agriculture, specially the cultivation of rice. Fishing is another local activity. When she has free time, she enjoys going out to walk along the beach, since this helps her clear her mind and pass the time. She also enjoys eating one of her favorite dishes, which is the delicious "lomo saltado." María prepares "bolillos," which are a type of bread in the shape of small balls and is very tasty. She works around 12 hours daily and may serve up to 30 customers during the day. She believes her business is going well because she is a good cook and above all she is very nice to her customers. Maria is very grateful to Kiva lenders, because thanks to the support they have offered she will be able to purchase baking utensils, such as baking tins and bread tongs, among other things. This way she will have the necessary tools for her work and will be able to improve her income, which will allow her to keep working and fighting every day so that she can make her greatest dream come true: "To own a bakery."
