A loan of $1,050 helped to buy fertilizers.

Oscar Ivan's story

Oscar is 24 years old, single, and doesn't have any children. He lives in Patuca community, in Olancho. Oscar learned this business from his dad as his family grow coffee. His dad has supported him a lot in teaching him the business and helping him to set up his own plantation. Oscar started growing crops on his own plantation eight years ago. He carries out his work every day. He works alone and, at harvest time, he employs people to gather in the coffee as there is a lot of work and he can't do it all on his own. One of the advantages he has is that he is able to sell his produce for a good price. The disadvantage he has is that he is only able to harvest his crops once a year. However, even so, the business is profitable. Oscar needs this loan to invest in buying fertilizers for his crops. With the help of this loan, he will be able to improve his plantation. This means that he will enjoy a more bountiful harvest and be in a better position. Oscar's dream is to grow his business and become one of the biggest producers in the area. This is his first loan from FAMA and he hopes to make his repayments punctually.
