Maria Del Socorro
María, 56, lives in her own house with her husband and two grandchildren. When her daughter, the mother of these children, died she took charge of them. María has 47 years’ experience growing coffee since her father taught her how to care and manage the crops when she was very little. She feels very proud of the satisfaction her children have given her by being good coffee producers since she taught them the occupation.

María works in her field most of the time and in her free time takes care of her grandchildren and sells beauty products which generates a little extra income. Her greatest hope is to be able to send her grandchildren to school and that they complete a university education.

Her goal as a grower is to improve and renovate her parcel so that production per hectare will increase because she assures that with the improvements she’s planning to implement she will obtain larger harvests and as a result higher profits that will help her reach her dreams to attain her objective. She’s asking for a loan to buy fertilizer and coffee plants to restock part of her farm and to pay day laborers.
