A loan of $1,050 helped to buy fertilizer.

Santos Melania's story

Santos Melania is 32 years old. She is married and has 5 children. Her husband is a farmer. They are a responsible family and they are fighters. She works in the fields and her business is growing coffee. She learned this very young when she would go and work on her neighbors' farms. With her husband, she started to save to buy a parcel of land to cultivate. Little by little and with a lot of sacrifice, she has made her farm grow. She works with her husband and three of her children. They are totally dedicated to this work since it is their only source of income. She needs the loan to invest in buying fertilizer for the farm. It would be a good opportunity, since if she doesn't take it out she will have to compromise her crop with intermediaries who take advantage to buy the product at a low price. The only problem she faces is the lack of labor to pick the coffee, since most people have their own farms and it is difficult to find enough people to help at harvest time. One of her dreams is to improve the farm to have better coffee production and get ahead with her family. This is the first loan Melania has taken out with FAMA and she hopes to make her payments on time.
