Ever since Erelia L. was very young she has worked in the agricultural industry in Achuapa in the city of León. Thanks to her great efforts as a mother she has been able to improve her son’s life and push him to study in the humble municipal school.

It is important to emphasize that her son has been an excellent student. His success is very much a product of the investment Erelia has made in his studies. Erelia has been successful in pushing her son forward through great effort and the returns from her hard work in agriculture.

One of Erelia’s needs is to have electricity. The area she lives in does not provide electricity. In order to obtain electricity Erelia purchased a solar panel with a loan. This debt is outstanding with another institution and needs to be canceled as soon as possible.

Erelia has requested a loan from CEPRODEL in order to cover the debt and begin to truly make use of the new asset of electricity. This will help her son to continue developing intellectually.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
