María is a 60 year-old-woman who is married with adult children. She lives in her own house with her husband. The house is located in Malingas Grande settlement in Tambogrande District, Piura. This is a rural part of the district that has electricity but no other basic services.

Maria has a business selling several varieties of seedlings that she has planted on her land. She also has a producing lemon plantation that she harvests weekly. In addition she raises sheep and pigs, which she sells in a local market when they reach the requisite weight and size. She has been in business for 9 years. There is a fixed permanent market for these products.

She is applying for a loan of S/. 2,000 and will use it to purchase seeds and fertilizer for new seedlings as well as nutritional feed for her animals. Thus she will increase the production and sale of her seeds.
