Daudi has been in active farming for 22 years and has one farmhand who he employs. His farm produces milk and eggs, which he sells to the local market. He earns additional income from his low-cost rental houses in the local market. He is married and has three children. His youngest is only 10 years old and is still in school.
Daudi has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to expand his poultry business. He will buy poultry birds with the loan. He also plans to buy his own car to help in transportation, which has become very expensive to hire.
Daudi says lack of enough water remains a challenge.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
