A loan of $3,500 helped a member to diversify her business by adding beverages to generate additional profits.

Gradi Plus Group's story

Gradi Plus is a Community Bank made up of twelve micro-entrepreneurs whose chairwoman is Alphonsine. These members are united for the same goal: to grow their businesses with loans received from Kiva through IMF HOPE RDC.

Alphonsine runs a restaurant in the mid-western area of Kinshasa. She is 40 years old, married, and the mother of four children who are between the ages of 7 and 20. All of them attend school.

She started her restaurant in 2008 with a beginning capital of US$80. With hard work and good management, and by providing good customer service, Alphonsine’s business has prospered and has permanent customers to keep it up. She has already received and successfully repaid eight loans from the MFI HOPE DRC. Her business generates $180 of profit per week.

Alphonsine is planning with the new loan to diversify her business by adding beverages to generate additional profits. Her ambition is to someday become a beverage provider in her environment.
